If you are an HPAA member: How to get full access to all HPAA services

(If you are not an HPAA member yet, please click here to join the HPAA.)

New HPAA members start out with a limited email-only membership.

For security and privacy, certain HPAA services use the free "Yahoo ID" password facility:

  • Easy management of all your subscriptions from a single page

  • Ability to search the job postings or discussion forums using a browser

  • Voting in HPAA elections

  • Ability to troubleshoot Yahoo Groups email problems

Members report that it may be easier to set up a separate Yahoo ID for your HPAA subscriptions. You can have multiple Yahoo IDs linked to the same non-Yahoo email address.

Even if you already have a Yahoo ID, you must link your Yahoo Group memberships to it.

This is a Yahoo privacy feature. You can set up multiple Yahoo IDs on one Yahoo account –- perhaps a personal ID and a professional ID –- and Yahoo gives you control over which ID, if any, you choose to link to your membership in each Yahoo Group.

To link a Yahoo ID to your group memberships:

  1. Go to "Manage My Groups" on Yahoo Groups and sign in to Yahoo

  2. Click either "Membership Wizard" or "Don't see all your groups?" at the bottom of the page

  3. Link your Yahoo ID to "hp_alumni_association" and your other HPAA subscriptions.

If you don't already have a free Yahoo ID, it is easy to get one:

  1. Go to "Manage My Groups" on Yahoo Groups and click "Sign Up" on the center right.

  2. Fill in only the fields with a red asterisk.
(We suggest a Yahoo ID of the form "firstname_lastname" –- so that former co-workers will recognize your messages. Your answers under "If You Forget Your Password" are not public.)

  3. Uncheck the "Create my free Yahoo email address" box.

  4. Go to your email, open the "Welcome to Yahoo" message and activate your account.

  5. Go back to "Manage My Groups" on Yahoo Groups

  6. Click either "Membership Wizard" or "Don't see all your groups?" at the bottom of the page

  7. Link your Yahoo ID to "hp_alumni_association" and your other HPAA subscriptions.
