Join the HPAA networking groups on LinkedIn (optional)
The HPAA operates two networking
groups on LinkedIn
– the
leading professional networking system.
The value of membership in a large LinkedIn group is that
you can search and reach those in the same group without a
paid LinkedIn membership. Our "HP Connections"
group has 50,000 members.
Use the two HPAA groups on LinkedIn to
find exHPers at a specific company, or by industry, title,
or city ...or reconnect with a former co-worker ...or just to
answer "Whatever happened to?" |

Yahoo and LinkedIn are separate
services from separate companies. Each requires a separate login.
Our volunteers can't add you to the HPAA groups on LinkedIn – you have to
join through the LinkedIn system.
Online systems –
like LinkedIn and Yahoo –
identify members by their email address, not by their name.
LinkedIn never exposes your email address
to other members without your permission. Emails
you send via LinkedIn have a linkedin.com return address –
and LinkedIn gives you precise control as to which types of
email you receive via their system.

If you already have a LinkedIn
account, this is a good opportunity to be sure that the email addresses
on your LinkedIn account are current. Job leads, requests to connect, and
other communications from LinkedIn go to the primary email address on your
LinkedIn account.

Go to
LinkedIn
and log in |
|
2. |
Click "Accounts & Settings" in the upper right
corner, then "Email Addresses" in the right-hand column. |
|
3. |
Check that all of your
current email addresses – including the
email you use for your HPAA membership – are shown as either primary or secondary
confirmed addresses on your LinkedIn
account.

|
Job leads, requests to connect, and
other communications from LinkedIn go to the primary email address.
A secondary address ensures
that you receive requests to connect and other communications from people who know you by
that address.
|
|
|
► @mac.com: If you have an
@mac.com email address,
put both forms of your email address on your
LinkedIn account. The newer <name>@me.com
version as your primary address – and the
<name>@mac.com version as your secondary address. |

|
► UK or Germany: If you use Google
mail, put both forms of
your email address on your LinkedIn account. The
@googlemail.com version as your primary address
– and the @gmail.com version as your secondary
address. (For legal reasons, emails from gmail
users in the UK and Germany are sent from
<name>@googlemail but are received if sent
to either <name>@gmail or
<name>@googlemail.) |

If you do not already have a
LinkedIn account, setting one up is quick and easy. |

|

2. |
When you
set up your account,
include all of your
current email addresses – including the

LinkedIn
will send an email to you asking you to confirm your
email address in order to activate your account.

|
|
Once your HPAA membership has
been processed, you will receive one or two pre‑approved
invitations to join our two LinkedIn
groups. These invitations will appear in the Inbox on
your LinkedIn account. LinkedIn will also send emails to
the primary address on your LinkedIn account. |

The "HP Alumni" group is limited to HPAA members. |
|
2. |
The much larger "HP Connections" group
is open to current and former employees of HP, HP
acquisitions, and HP spinoffs. |

Accept
the invitations for both groups
– many "HP Alumni"
members are not members of "HP Connections."
|
|
If you are already a member of
"HP Connections" on LinkedIn but receive an invitation to
join that group,
click here to sync-up your HPAA membership with your LinkedIn
account.

|
What happens next?
Allow a few days for our volunteers to get the HPAA groups
on
LinkedIn and Yahoo synchronized. Then, both the "HP
Alumni" and "HP Connections" logos will
appear on your LinkedIn Profile. |
