How to synchronize your HPAA membership with
your LinkedIn account
These instructions apply if you
are an HPAA member and already have a LinkedIn account.

Our volunteers cannot add you to the HPAA
groups on LinkedIn – you have to join through the
LinkedIn and Yahoo identify members by their
email address, not by their name. With more than 27,000
members, the HPAA has to do likewise.
All current HP Alumni Association members are pre-approved
for membership the HPAA's networking groups on LinkedIn --
using the email address you used to join the HPAA.
If your request to join one of the HPAA groups on LinkedIn
was not automatically accepted, there are two possible
- The email address you originally used to
join the HPAA began rejecting HPAA emails -- and you were
therefore dropped from the HPAA roster.
- The email address on your HPAA membership
is not on your LinkedIn account -- as either the primary
address or as a secondary address.
If you no longer receive any
emails with [HPAA] at the start of the subject line, you
probably joined the HPAA with an email address that is no
longer valid and were therefore automatically dropped from
the HPAA roster.

HPAA membership, make your request
If you are receiving emails
with [HPAA] at the start of the subject line, you need
to add another email address to your LinkedIn account -- so
that you can join HPAA groups on LinkedIn.
First, check that the email address you
used to join the HPAA is one of the addresses on your
LinkedIn account. (In addition, this is a good opportunity
to make sure that all the email addresses on your LinkedIn
account are current.)
You can have multiple email addresses on your LinkedIn
Job leads, requests to connect, and
other communications from LinkedIn go to the primary email
address on your LinkedIn account.
- A secondary address
ensures that you receive requests
to connect and other communications
from people who know you by that address.
We recommend that the primary address on your
LinkedIn account be your personal address, rather than your
LinkedIn never exposes your email address
to other members without your permission. Emails you
send via LinkedIn have a linkedin.com return address – and
LinkedIn gives you control as to which types of email you
receive via their system.
It is easy to
set up a secondary address on your LinkedIn account.
