Board Members


President and Treasurer: Shirley Kwan

Shirley's 23-year HP career included roles in finance operations management in the US, Asia-Pacific, and Europe. She worked at Intercontinental HQ, Santa Clara Division, Corporate, and Singapore. She was European Controller for the PC business, based in Grenoble, and Global Director of Internal Audit, based in Hong Kong. Most recently, she was Director of Internal Audit at Intuit. A native of Malaysia, Shirley has a BA in Economics from Agnes Scott College and an MBA from Emory University. She is a Certified Internal Auditor and recently self-published her book of poems, Ramrom Raps. Currently, Shirley serves as a consultant to SIL-Indonesia.

 


Operations Director and Corporate Secretary: Curt Gowan

Curt is retired after 30 years in startup and turnaround divisions within HP. He held engineering roles in R&D, quality, product marketing, and technical marketing. In retirement, Curt is doing independent research and working on pro bono projects. He has BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering from San Jose State University.

 


Technical Director: Bill Parrish

Bill worked in R&D, support, and system validation for HP for 31 years and is now consulting at HP on server system validation. Bill has a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

 


Careers and Jobs Director: Cathy Carlson

Cathy worked in manufacturing and customer support at the Santa Clara Division for eleven years. She is currently the Food Safety Program Manager at Community Alliance with Family Farmers  ̶  a non-profit that advocates for family farmers and sustainable agriculture. Previous roles include QA and Food Safety Manager at Fresh Leaf Farms, project manager at California Organics; and project manager at the US Department of Agriculture. She managed a local water company and worked as a residential construction project manager Cathy's BA is from UC-Santa Cruz, where she specialized in Agroecology and Land Use and Planning.

 


Events Director and Recording Secretary: Diana McGlocklin

Diana started at HP in 1989 as an administrative assistant – and retired in 2005 as the U.S. Public Sector Field Marketing Manager for the Imaging and Printing Group, performing market analysis and producing seminars, events, and marketing campaigns with channel partners nationwide. Diana then went back to HP as a contractor for three years. She manages golf and charity events at the Spring Ford Country Club in Pennsylvania. While working full-time at HP, Diana earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Management/Marketing from Rosemont College.

 


Membership Director: Peg Ofstead

Peg lives in Maryland and is semi-retired after 36 years of working in the IT industry, primarily in consulting and internal IT at companies including HP, Oracle, Mobil Oil and 3M.  She is now on the adjunct faculty at Hood College, teaching graduate and undergraduate computer science classes.  She has a BA in Mathematics, and an MBA from Wharton. She retired from HP in December 2008.

 

 


HP Connections Director: Zandra Conway

Zandra was at HP for 22 years, including 15 years in applications support and business systems analysis in the Bay Area and Atlanta. She is currently a project manager at Inter-City Services, a high-tech employment training program in Berkeley, CA. She also operates ZeeCee Communications, a marketing firm working for business, community, and political organizations. She has a BA in Social Science from San Jose State University and a BS in Management Information Systems from UC San Francisco.

 


 

Team Members


Event Coordinator: Barbara Madden

Barbara is an Ameriprise Financial Advisor, and has owned her own business for 10 years. She started out in internal audit at HP for five years – at Analytical Products Group at Corporate and Intercon; the US IPO International Procurement Operation at Corporate; Corporate Financial Reporting and lastly at Video on Demand (VID) in Santa Clara, leaving after 15 years from Agilent. Barbara is a CPA/PFS and holds securities and insurance licenses.

 


Event Coordinator: Kinch Malapitan

Kinch is a Project/Program Manager and worked at HP for 27 years. She started at Santa Clara Division then went on to Corporate, Business Networks Division, WCSO, CPS, Test and Measurement, TSG, and Imaging & Printing Group. She has certifications in Scrum and Project Management and has a BS in Computer Science from California State University, East Bay.

 


Event Coordinator: Michael Morrell

Michael was at HP for 21 years. He is currently a graphics software engineer at Intel. He has BS degrees in EE and Computer Engineering from the University of California, San Diego – and MS degrees in EE and Computer Engineering from Stanford.

 


Finance Forum Moderator: Tom von Alten

Tom worked in R&D, manufacturing engineering, and process engineering at HP for 20 years. He is currently a web application developer at Information Designs in Boise. Tom has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Idaho and an MS in Manufacturing Systems Engineering from Stanford.

 


Advisor and Emeritus Director: Mary Tate

Mary has held management positions in sales and marketing for the past 20 years. For the last five years, she has been a channels and alliance marketing consultant working for Amazon Consulting and Phoenix Consulting Group. Previously, she was the Director of Strategic and Technology Alliances at iPass. At HP, she was the Global Business Manager for the iPass/Cisco alliance as well as the world-wide marketing manager for various HP partners. Prior to HP, she was a sales account executive for Digital Equipment Corporation. Mary holds a BA in Economics from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
