HPInc and HPE Summary Plan Descriptions (Updated Oct 2, 2020.) Contact the HPAA volunteers: email@example.com
The SPD is a legal document that takes precedence over any other written, online, or verbal information you may be given. (But is still subject to change.)
The plan administrator is required by law to make the appropriate SPD available -- upon request. (The mailing about the 2020 EDS lump-sum pension buyout offer did not include the SPD -- which covers many key details, including annual interest credit, QDRO, and surviving spouse provisions.)
Tip: Get a pdf copy from the plan administrator. Even if you have a paper copy, much easier to use if you download the current copy and use Adobe Reader's search feature to find specific words or phrases. (To search for a word or phrase in a pdf file, press Ctrl and F together on a PC -- or Command and F on a Mac.)
For details of a retirement plan, obtain a copy of the legal "Summary Plan Description" -- usually by logging into your account on the plan administrator's website. Decoding SPDs

"EDS Retirement Plan Summary Plan Description" (the "SPD") -- with many key details, including annual interest credit, QDRO, and surviving spouse provisions.
There are at least two vintages of the EDS plan. Download the SPD from Fidelity that specifically applies to you -- based on when you left EDS.
For example, the
"Updated as of January 2012" copy of the SPD does
not apply if you left EDS
before July 1, 1998.
"Your Summary Plan Descriptions (SPDs) describe key features of the benefits available to you as an eligible HP retiree. You may qualify for benefits under one or more of the programs described in the SPDs, depending on your circumstances.
"The SPDs also include a directory of benefit resources, information about what happens when you experience certain changes in your life, and information about your rights under the programs. In the event of any inconsistency between the SPDs and the terms of the plans or programs, the terms of the plans or programs will control.
"To request a printed copy of an SPD, please call the HP Benefits Center at 1-800-890-3100."
SPDs are also posted on the official "HP Continuum" password-protected retiree website operated by HPInc. See https://www.hpalumni.org/Continuum for instructions on how to join HP Continuum.
Once you are a member of Continuum, go to this page for the SPD documents: https://www.hpcontinuum.com/plan-descriptions
