How the Retiree Reimbursement Account (RRA) process works. Menu of Benefits Enrollment pages: Enrollment Menu [??? page currently has no links to it -- pending resolution of issues] Based on reports from HP Alumni Association members who have completed enrollment. Email us: info@hpalumni.org (Updated Dec 6, 2025) Correction: RRA subsidy without purchasing from AlightRHS. https://www.hpalumni.org/enroll-rra-workaround There are two accounts involved -- at two related Alight companies with separate systems, locations, and personnel: - Benefits Center account. Operated for HPInc and HPE by AlightWorklife. Shows the HPInc/HPE view of your health benefits -- therefore hard to interpret. Manage your RRA. Your Benefits Center Account (Once logged in, the page addresses start with "worklife.alight...") - Alight Retiree Health Solutions account. A nationwide insurance sales agency. (Page URLs: "retiree.alight...") Log in to shop for plans before or during an AlightRHS agent appointment. Check status of plans bought from AlightRHS. Your AlightRHS Account (Page addresses start with "retiree.alight...") Activate your AlightRHS account. Start at https://retiree.alight.com/hp (HPE: https://retiree.alight.com/hewlettpackardenterprise ) How RRA is funded. For your first year, the Benefits Center sets up a Retiree Reimbursement Account (RRA) with an AlightWorklife service called "Your Spending Account" (YSA). Every year, a subsidy is added to your RRA. (An RRA is separate from any other non-taxable accounts -- HSA, FSA, or RMSA -- you might have.) Your Alight Retiree Health Solutions account only shows the original allocation for this year and next year. Not the reimbursements that were made. You may wish to buy your Advantage or Medigap plan via another path and use the RRA subsidy to buy other plans from AlightRHS -- such as Medicare Part D drug -- or non-Medicare drug, dental and/or vision plans. (The HPInc RRA does not cover hearing plans.) How to research coverage history and reimbursement history on your Benefits Center account: https://www.hpalumni.org/enroll-bc-research
Reimbursements for the year stop when the RRA account is empty. On the other hand, any unused money is carried over from year to year.
RRA if you buy from AlightRHS. You pay list price each month directly to the insurer. The insurer notifies Alight Retiree Health Solutions and pays them a commission. AlightRHS notifies YSA, which reimburses you every month via direct deposit until your RRA is empty. Any unused money is carried over from year to year. There is a process to deal with declined claims. (The reimbursements show on your bank account as coming from "YSA.") Workaround if you can't buy the policy you want from AlightRHS. A member has discovered that people with HPInc RRAs (Retiree Reimbursement Accounts) can file reimbursement claims via the Benefits Center website.
????? You can get RRA reimbursements for policies bought directly from an insurer (such as Mutual of Omaha or Regence) or from a health system (such as Kaiser or Harvard Pilgrim) or from a local independent agent (who may be more familiar with what works best in your area and be more skillful in constructing plan applications that get approved.) However, this process requires extra effort on your part: - Instead of working with an AlightRHS agent, you apply for the policy yourself. - If asked detailed health questions, STOP! If an employer group health plan (including retiree or COBRA coverage) is ending, you have a "guaranteed issue" right -- i.e. without consideration of your current health ("medical underwriting") -- in every state. (This is confusing -- laws in certain states require guaranteed issue in additional situations.) https://www.hpalumni.org/enroll-guaranteed-issue - Instead of automatic reimbursement of the plans you bought from AlightRHS up to the amount available in your RRA account, you file claims online. For the Retiree Reimbursement Account, the AlightRHS site says: "Reimbursable health care expenses for this account: Medicare Advantage Premiums, Medigap Premiums, Prescription Drug Premiums, Dental Plan Premiums, Vision Plan Premiums." The Benefits Center account at AlightWorklife lists the same items in a table. Retiree Reimbursement Account problems. Contact your Benefits Center -- not AlightRHS -- if there are problems with the Retiree Reimbursement Account RRA subsidy. https://www.hpalumni.org/BenefitsCenter Next step: Menu of key Enrollment issues: https://www.hpalumni.org/enroll-menu (Membership not required.)Link to this page: https://www.hpalumni.org/enroll-rra-process |
