HP Breakup-Related Issues (HP, HPE, DXC, Micro Focus, Perspecta, Agilent, Keysight...)

Hewlett-Packard breakup. On Nov 1, 2015, the legal name of the Hewlett-Packard Company was changed to HP Inc. ("hp" logo, HPQ stock symbol) and a new, completely separate company – Hewlett Packard Enterprise (no hyphen, singular, "HPE" logo and stock symbol) – was spun off. Portions of HPE were later spun off into DXC, which was split up, and Micro Focus, which was bought out.

HP Inc. (HP):
- HP Inc. legal headquarters is at the long-time site in Palo Alto, CA on land leased from Stanford University. Admin headquarters is at 10300 Energy Drive, Spring, TX 77389. (Same ZIP code as the HPE corporate headquarters.) Legal headquarters still in Palo Alto -- but now 1501 Page Mill Road, not Hanover Street. Most of the Page Mill site has been subleased to Tesla. Main number is still 1-650-857-1501.
- Assume that any other addresses given in documents are extinct. (Hanover Street, Compaq Center, Pruneridge Ave, America Center Drive, Legacy Drive, Forest Lane, Maynard, etc.)
- HP Inc. has approximately 53,000 worldwide direct employees. Annual Report October 31, 2020 (55,000 per Annual Report October 31, 2018) HP top shareholders
Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE):
- HPE corporate headquarters moved from the former HP headquarters on Hanover Street in Palo Alto, to Santa Clara, to North San Jose, to Houston -- and finally to a new campus in Spring, TX. "...storage business, West Coast territory sales team, GreenLake, software, and other technical talent -- along with non-technical talent that chooses not to relocate -- will be based in San Jose." HPE corporate office address 1701 E Mossy Oaks Rd, Spring, TX 77389. (Same ZIP code as HP Inc admin site.) 1-678-259-9860.

- HPE has approximately 59,000 worldwide direct employees. Annual Report October 31, 2020 (60,000 per Annual Report October 31, 2018) HPE top shareholders
- Original 2015 logo was a hollow green rectangle adjoining "Hewlett Packard" spelled out in bold (no hyphen) and "Enterprise" (singular, lightface) below. In Jun 2025, the logo was simplified -- letters "HPE" in black or white -- with the lower two-thirds of the "E" in green. Full legal name of the company not changed.
HP Labs was split up: HP Labs is part of HP Inc; Hewlett Packard Labs is part of Hewlett Packard Enterprise.
Joint history: HP and HPE have jointly hired HeritageWerks, a public relations agency, to digitize and display the HP photo archives on a website. Official HP Archives. Bill and Dave's offices on Page Mill and the restored garage in residential Palo Alto are not open to the public.
Stock. If you were ever an HP shareholder, you may now have shares of HPQ, HPE, Keysight, and/or Agilent – in different accounts. HP Inc is the overall legal successor to Hewlett-Packard and to companies acquired by Hewlett-Packard before Nov 1, 2015 – such as Compaq, DEC, EDS, Tandem, etc. -- regardless of whether a business unit ended up in HP Inc or HPE. For employees of HP -- and predecessor companies -- who left before the HPInc/HPE separation, responsibility for any health or retirement benefits varies from country to country. For the US, HP Inc has responsibility. For Canada and UK, HPE has responsibility. In many countries, plans were split between HP Inc and HPE. See: Where are my benefits?
