This is the HPAA's unofficial directory of 169 acquisitions -- and 30 divestitures and spinoffs -- by HP and HPE since 1958. (Minority stakes are not included, nor are acquisitions made by EDS.)
The most recent events are highlighted. Dates given are generally the date of closure, not the date of announcement.
HPInc is the overall legal successor to Hewlett-Packard and to companies acquired by Hewlett-Packard before Nov 1, 2015 – Compaq, EDS, etc. – regardless of whether a business unit ended up in HPInc or HPE. For employees of HP -- and predecessor companies -- who left before the HPInc/HPE separation, responsibility for any health or retirement benefits varies from country to country, depending on employee population. For the US, HPInc has responsibility. For Canada and UK, HPE has responsibility. In many countries, plans were split between HP Inc and HPE. See: Where are my benefits?
Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) is the overall legal successor to companies acquired by HPE – such as Cray, Juniper, Nimble, etc.

Service at HP predecessor companies.
Of HPInc's many predecessor companies, only HP and DEC ever had US retiree healthcare programs -- setting aside money over the years in dedicated trust funds. Employees of other acquisitions did not get credit under HP's long-service retiree healthcare program for service at the predecessor -- but generally did get service credit for other benefits. Stock. Depending on when you acquired stock -- and due to the sequence of spinoffs and acquisitions -- you may now have shares of HPInc (HPQ), HPE, DXC, Keysight (KEYS), and/or Agilent (A) – in different accounts – and may not have received cash payouts for Micro Focus (MFGP) and Perspecta (PRSP).
Transactions were often tracked and reported differently – or not at all. Only you – not the company, plan administrators, transfer agents, brokers, or the IRS – can reconstruct your full employee stock history.

- HP. The table of original press releases announcing major acquisitions since 2000 is no longer available on HP's Investor Relations site. We have a copy as of May 15, 2018. Go to the Internet Archive to use the links on the page, which still work: "Mergers & acquisitions announcements". (HP's list does not include minor acquisitions, divestitures, product line acquisitions, development team acquisitions, or acquisitions of customer IT departments through outsourcing contracts.)
- Wikipedia. There is a Wikipedia table of 116 HP acquisitions. It is in chronological order, has links to news articles and press releases, and gives acquisition costs if known. However, it is incomplete -- for example, there are no entries for 2018 through 2020. Does not mention the divestitures. (Note: Wikipedia is very useful. However, the articles can be written, rewritten, or edited by anyone -- and therefore may not be accurate or current, often change dramatically over time, may not cover all aspects of the topic consistently, and may not be written from a neutral point of view.)
Product successor -- the company that appears to currently have the majority of the acquired company's products. For example, the notation "(HPE to Micro Focus)" indicates that product responsibility most likely moved from HP to HPE to Micro Focus as a result of the Hewlett-Packard breakup.
